No one is secure forever against the threat of acid reflux. This condition affects over 33 percent of Americans. Lots of people have acid reflux, but few people know how to deal with it. Use the tips below to fight acid reflux effectively.

High-impact exercising can increase your acid reflux symptoms. When lower abdominal muscles tighten during a work out, this can lead to food moving back into the esophagus. Allow one to two hours to pass before you partake in exercise activities.

To help combat acid reflux, use something to raise up your bed at the head portion only. You can raise your bed with bricks or wood blocks. The head of the bed should be approximately six inches higher. When you have your chest and head elevated, stomach acid is less likely to come up when sleeping.

Avoid really restricting clothes. Belts, pantyhose, waistbands and other restrictive clothing put too much pressure on your stomach. This adds more pressure around your stomach. This leads to acid reflux. Consider comfortable clothes that do not put pressure on your stomach.

Try a bit of light exercise; walking is a good choice. There are a number of reasons why these types of exercise will be helpful to you. Your digestive process will be improved if you remain upright. Next, it helps with weight loss, which will further reduce acid reflux. While moderate exercise is beneficial for acid reflux sufferers, vigorous exercise can exacerbate your symptoms.

Steer clear of your most potent trigger foods for reflux. Some of the foods known to trigger reflux include mint, citrus, garlic, tomatoes, onions, fizzy drinks and caffeinated beverages. Find which foods trigger your acid reflux and avoid them.

Stay away from fatty foods. An easy way to do this is to stop eating fast food, red meat and fried foods. Check out food labels so you can educate yourself on the amount of fat in certain foods.

While eating, drink less of your beverage. Drinking while eating just adds more stress to your stomach. This extra pressure leads to symptoms of acid reflux. Instead, sip water during your meals.

As was stated before, a lot of people today suffer from acid reflux. If you are one of those people, it’s time to take the initiative to address your problem. Reduce your discomfort by following this advice.
